A European refractory company with a strong focus on low-carbon and environmentally responsible manufacturing supplies refractory products to the steel and glass industries across Europe. With the implementation of the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and increasingly stringent environmental requirements, the customer urgently needed magnesia raw materials with a lower carbon footprint and verified green production credentials.
The customer specifically required that the production process use no less than 80% renewable electricity and that the supplier be able to provide an authoritative carbon footprint certification report. In response, Kuanxiang developed a customized green fused magnesia solution tailored to the customer’s sustainability and compliance objectives.
The customer needed a magnesia supplier that could meet both technical performance requirements and strict EU environmental expectations at the same time. The main challenges included:
For the customer, this was not only a raw material procurement issue, but also a strategic requirement directly linked to market access and long-term competitiveness in Europe.
Leveraging Haicheng’s abundant local renewable energy resources, including wind and solar power, Kuanxiang developed a customized green fused magnesia solution and implemented a fully integrated supply model covering production, certification, packaging, and logistics.
On the production side, we adopted a 100% renewable electricity-driven high-temperature fusion process, using wind and solar energy throughout the production cycle. This significantly reduced the carbon footprint of the product and enabled the material to align closely with the EU’s strict environmental and low-carbon standards.
To support the customer’s compliance needs, Kuanxiang worked with internationally recognized third-party organizations such as SGS to issue a full life-cycle carbon footprint certification report. The report clearly documented emissions data across the product lifecycle, helping the customer strengthen its response to EU carbon-related trade policies and improve transparency in its supply chain.
To further support the customer’s sustainability goals, we adopted recyclable jumbo bag packaging, reinforcing the concept of green packaging across the supply process. For delivery, shipments were sent directly to Europe via sea freight through Hamburg Port, with full door-to-door logistics tracking service provided throughout the transportation process.
Kuanxiang’s green fused magnesia reduced carbon emissions by 45% compared with conventional production processes and successfully obtained authoritative EU-recognized carbon footprint certification. This helped the customer’s products enter the European high-end market more smoothly and with stronger environmental credentials.
After using Kuanxiang’s green magnesia, the customer reduced the carbon footprint of its refractory products by 18%, significantly strengthening its competitiveness in the EU market.
Following the success of the project, the two parties signed a three-year long-term cooperation agreement, with annual procurement volume remaining stable at 15,000 tons. Through this partnership, Kuanxiang successfully became part of the core group of green magnesia suppliers serving the European market.
This project demonstrates Kuanxiang’s ability to combine product quality, renewable energy manufacturing, carbon certification support, and sustainable logistics into one integrated solution. It not only helped the customer meet immediate regulatory and market demands, but also positioned both parties for long-term growth under the global trend toward greener industrial production.
